“Having numerous, oftentimes redundant units of government that can all levy taxes is a key reason why property taxes are among the highest in the nation. But solutions are within reach, and the state has a guide in DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin.
Through the DuPage ACT Initiative (Accountability/Consolidation/Transparency), four units of government have been dissolved. There are efforts to consolidate the offices of the election commission and the county clerk. ACT also aims to introduce best practices, improve efficiencies, reduce duplication and encourage resource sharing. These are common-sense decisions that have been carefully thought out and implemented.”
